"Wayne was a very diligent and professional member of our team. His expertise on the East Aurora project alone saved LSI over $950,000 between value engineering and energy saving measures implemented. He additionally contributed invaluable ideas on process flow on both projects and was the driving force on project timing."
—Leo T. Eckman, President (Krepe-Kraft, Blasdell, NY)

Our firm believes strongly in developing the best systems for our clients to obtain both energy and cost reduction through the use of energy systems and cogeneration, which allows our clients to be in control of energy operating costs in the future. Bonhag Associates has vast experience in providing engineering, analysis, design, commissioning, and troubleshooting for a wide variety of energy and CHP systems. As a design team, we select the correct type and size of systems for each facility. Over forty years of experience in the mechanical, electrical, and energy fields allows us to integrate systems by applying innovative approaches that keep us on the cutting edge and provide our clients with excellent, hands-on, practical results. We have been responsible for over 200 cogeneration studies throughout the region from 50 KW in size to 8 MW in size. We look at each project individually and understand the current technologies and available fuels which include wood chips, biomass, natural gas, compressed natural gas, #2 oil, propane, biogas, and #6 oil.

Energy Systems Bonhag Associates, PLLC, is active as an advocate in dealing with various utilities and fuel vendors on behalf of the client. We have successfully found funding for projects in DSM and similar funding programs.

Bonhag has the capabilities to:

  • Plan
  • Perform Energy Studies (Both Thermal and Electrical)
  • Perform Economic Analyses (LCC, ROIC, Cash Flow, and Simple Payback)
  • Engineer and Specify Systems and Subsystems
  • Provide Contract Administration During the Project
  • Provide Commissioning of the Project

The following are examples of projects that required energy and cogeneration analysis to achieve the results requested by our clients:

  • Incineration Facility: Provided an energy audit and analysis of a 25,000,000 BTUH facility where natural gas is used to completely oxidize all VOC's from the containers. The system needed to meet or exceed federal, state and local regulations.
  • Food Manufacturing Facility: Provided a Phase I screening for the use of cogeneration for the plant, balancing thermal and electric loads. Considerations included future increases in load, sale of thermal to an adjoining process facility and use of wood chips as a fuel.
  • Hospital Complex: Provided an energy analysis for the use of gas-fired cogeneration systems for the hospital complex. The analysis included assumptions, construction costs, and budgets and projected 20-year cash flows for this 7.5 MW system.
  • Plastic Manufacturing Facility: Reviewed the cost reduction in the production of plastic parts from both the electrical and thermal energy sides of the process. Provided the basis to achieve the results to reduce the operating costs through lowering the energy costs of each piece of the product.
  • Recreational Facility: Provided budgeting, concepts, design and assistance in startup for a gas-fired cogeneration system for an ice skating rink. In conjunction with this, a gas-fired dehumidification system was selected for the control of humidity in the facility.
  • University Campus: Provided an energy analysis for the use of gas-fired cogeneration systems for the hospital complex. The analysis included assumptions, construction costs, and budgets and projected 20-year cash flows for this 5.2 MW system.
